Cycle Hayling Family Fun Ride, this Sunday!

  • We’ve just discovered the Community Centre café is closed for refurbishment – depending on what people want to do at the end, we’ll suggest somewhere close by, perhaps West Town Inn or Three Bean Café, or buy something at Tesco’s and eat in the park.

Join us on Sunday 9th June for our Green Week & Bike Week Family Fun Ride! And learn how to run a CycleBus that helps small children ride safely on roads – this will be Hayling’s second, and we’re hoping the start of a new way to help Hayling’s young children ride to school.

We’ll have a very gentle 3 mile family fun ride, for everyone from 5 to 95 – we’ll go at the speed of the slowest! More adventurous riders could add a ride down the Billy Trail.

Free ice cream for the best blinged bike and the best young rider!

It’s one of the events for Havant Green Week (Sat 8th – Sun 16th June) & Cycling UK Bike Week (Mon 10th – Sun 16th June)
And you can’t get much greener than a Green Week bike ride!

  • Start and finish at the Hayling Community Centre
  • Meet there at 10:30am, Sunday 9-June.
  • We’ll have a very quick bike check and safety briefing.
  • Then we’ll ride very gently on cycle paths and Hayling’s quieter roads to the beach near Chichester Avenue (see the map here).
  • We’ll have a little rest there, maybe you’ll want to buy an ice cream.
  • Then we’ll ride along the beach tracks, and then to the top of the Billy Trail.
  • We’ll finish back at the Community Centre in Hayling Park, with a chance to buy an ice cream, coffee, lunch or a picnic if you bring your own.
  • More adventurous riders could add their own ride down the Billy Trail – if we have any spare marshalls, one of us may come with you.
  • Your ride leaders are Wilf Forrow, Joy Forrow, Roger Knight and Robert Sebley, all very experienced ride leaders with Portsmouth CTC, a member group of Cycling UK.

A few important conditions:

  • You ride at your own risk!
  • Under 16’s must bring a responsible adult.
  • Check your bikes first – see cyclehayling.org/checks.
  • E-bikes, e-cargo bikes and trailers welcome.
  • Expect a few rough surfaces.
  • We’ll try and help with bike problems, but we’ll be short on tools, spares and time.
  • We think helmets are a good idea, especially for kids, but it’s your choice.
  • Leave the ride the ride at any point – but please tell us!

Run jointly by Cycle Hayling and Portsmouth CTC (Cycle Touring Club).

If you have any questions, email Wilf Forrow at wilf@cyclehayling.org.

You can see the ride map here, and our Cycle Map of Hayling here.

Hoping to see you there!

Roger Knight, Wilf Forrow and the Cycle Hayling committee.
